listed below are some of our most popular classes (not every class is offered each month). for specific times and pricing on this month’s classes please click on the calendar listing. a full class description will appear below the calendar. we hope to see you soon!
sewing 101
get started sewing! whether you’re new to sewing or haven’t touched a machine in years, this class will get you comfortable with basics. learn your way around the sewing machine, as well as primary skills, including fabric and thread selection, pattern layout, pinning and cutting, while making a throw pillow. this class (or equivalent sewing skill) is a pre-requisite for other classes.
beginner six week sewing series
always wanted to learn to sew but too stressed out at the idea of doing it all on your own? this is the class for you! we will begin with the basics and each week add a new skill to our sewing repertoire as we complete projects. learn what all those stitches on your machine are for, how to measure and cut fabric, working with patterns, making and applying piping and bias tape, hemming garments, and inserting zippers (standard and invisible). projects for this class include simple applique, sewing tool storage roll, piped throw pillow with zipper, and the finale–an a-line skirt with patch pockets. there are a TON of skills wrapped into this course, and completing it will give you the confidence you need to tackle more advanced projects.
pillow-of-the-month
learn sewing techniques while making beautiful throw pillow covers for your home. you’ll explore modern sewing skills and complete a beautiful pillow cover each month.
amy butler’s gumdrop pillow
make amy’s gumdrop pillow pouf in either the 18″ or 24″ size. a perfect way to accessorize a room and add a pop of color, it can be used as a footstool, additional seating, or floor pillow.
kids sewing 101
kids are some of the most creative and capable people we know! this version of our sewing 101 is targeted just for pre-teens. kids will make a pillowcase for their bed pillow out of the fabric of their choice.
kidSkills (sewing 102 for kids)
projects vary from month to month, and are designed to give kids more practice with basic sewing.
open sewing
sometimes sewing at home just isn’t an option. chores, kids, significant others and other distractions get in the way. enjoy a little “me time” here in the studio with like-minded crafters. our 6 machines, tables, pressing equipment, tools and more are available to you whenever class is not in session. open sewing assumes that you can work independently at your own pace and have a basic understanding of machine operation. we are happy to offer advice on pattern and fabric selection, quick pointers, and cheerful working space, but please keep in mind that we have work to do in the shop and won’t be available for in-depth tutorials. if you need help getting to this point, start with a sewing 101 class and then you’ll be ready for open sew. ages 15 & up. price: $7/hour, $50/10 hours punch card available + 2 hours to give to a friend. please call ahead to ensure space is available.
